Congratulations to residents of city of Surrey BC Canada! We live in a beautiful City of Surrey BC and there are lot of good news and bad news! Since we live here it is up to us how we take it! We can work together and make it more beautiful and safer or we can criticize every thing and do nothing,
Whether you a senior and love to volunteer your time for school road crossing for children or you are a student in a school and collecting donation for needy people in our neighborhood or other parts of world--you are all important to us.
Being Canadian and being Surrey residents we have a very important role to play in our neighborhood and in our world. We are blessed with most beautiful charter of rights in our country and we are continuing to make it better.
It is the respect and tolerance of our Canadian community for each other-what we are proud of! It is our further duty to share the same with rest of the world. It is the need of the hour. If everyone respect and tolerate each other, then we don't need to spend Billions of dollars on international and internal security and safety of people.
When there is peace everywhere then every one can focus on personal growth, family, work, community welfare and helping others. Every thing is possible provided we have strong belief that we can do it.
Economic crisis in USA is not not over yet and we all know when a Trillion dollar is spent on fighting each other- and it will back fire on someone. Certainly people of USA are paying the price for it. But it will effect us as well sooner or later. We are lucky in a sense that our economy is more stable compared to USA.
But our economy is not stable if we don't compare ourselves with any other country. We are losing jobs everyday. Every day people are getting laid off. Who are they? Canadians working for government and its agencies and for unionized corporations!
Government and its agencies and unionized corporations are privatizing the labor contracts so that they don't have to pay benefits and same regular wages. Even further Corporations like (RBC Bank) were in a process of hiring foreigners and was about to get them trained by its own regular employees, who might have been laid off after training the foreigner workers. Thanks for timely intervention of government which brought some relief time being. But who knows what's next?
Ericsson (you may remember Sony-Ericsson) corporation is undergoing the same labor restructure. According to Ericsson website search logo, "Ericsson is shaping the future of mobile broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership, helping to create the most powerful ..."
Undoubtedly at the cost of its own employees who are getting laid off, not because there is no work, but because company is hiring cheap foreign workers to displace them. Most ironic that these same laid off workers were training their replacements...according to one of the employee of Ericsson in Montreal.
I hope with the new amendment in temporary foreign workers employment conditions, Ericsson would also like to reverse its decision of displacement of Canadian workers.
According to Telecompaper.com news:
Orange Switzerland and Ericsson have made 17 workers redundant in Renes on cost grounds, Netzwoche Ticker reports. According to news portal rts.ch, the Swiss workers have been replaced by Romanian engineers."

Air Canada few years back made some changes to their aircraft maintenance division and later completely shut it down 70% of it, leaving more than 2600 unemployed overnight.
According to ACE Aviation Holding Inc. CEO:"Our objective is to build a Canadian-based global player in the [maintenance, repair and overhaul] business," ACTS president and CEO Chahram Bolouri said in a release.Source: CBC.ca. For full article please follow the link at the bottom of the article.ACTS ( Air Canada Technical Services) is part of ACE Aviation Holding Inc which is parent company of AIR CANADA.
Now they may outsource their maintenance division to some other country. Currently it is USA based two private equity companies. But who knows USA companies may outsource further to Mexico, China, India or else. In that case the Canadian aircraft would be overhauled by some non-Canadian work force.
Companies are constantly re-negotiating with unions and forcing them to either co-operate to lower wages or go home. If nothing works out, they shut the company down and move it to poor countries. Bangladesh brand name factories are another prime example of it.
If Government or its agency or corporation do not have a choice to move it across the boarder, for example in public service jobs like transit drivers, nurses and more, then they contract out the jobs to private companies and lay off their regular employees. Motor vehicle department's merger into ICBC is the prime example of it.
Every thing is getting privatized as fast as possible. Public had suffered in past from NDP's public spending and continue to keep them away from local, provincial and federal offices. But there are always Pros and Cons about it.
Right wing Governments tend to sell everything to private companies; and private companies never pay their worker their fair share of wages unless there is a union of workers or co-op establishment. Under such environment most people would be employed, no doubt, but they have to work overtime to make their both ends meet. Which in turn would affect the family life of every Canadian.
What is the benefit to government by doing so?? No government payroll anymore. Easy to balance the budget. Extra cash flow by selling government assets which helps balance the budget. It seems private companies don't hesitate to offer kick backs to government officials for facilitating the sale of government assets.
Private contracts which pay less wages to workers for same jobs and perhaps to same work force- the work force once was either under union or on government payroll. As a result people are losing their regular jobs on one hand - and cheap private labor is getting hired on other hand. So the numbers on Stat. Canada may not look bad at all. Because may be more people would be working for the same amount of budget. So as a matter of fact, unemployment index may go down. But at what cost? At the cost of standard of living of Canadians!
In this process all decent paid jobs will vanish one day and cheap labor jobs will take over the economy. What type of economy would that be? Hand to mouth private cheap labor driven economy. Laid-off experienced worker either have to retire or open their own business. Or they may have to look for jobs abroad!!!
Not only that, where on one hand every Canadian is forced to accept lower wages day by day, Politicians are raising their pay day by day and try to grab as much tax payer's money as possible by claiming travelling expenses and who knows what else. Senators are prime examples. Now cities are going to get audited in near future and that might bring lot of new surprises to us.
Recently one of the city councillor and mayor of Delta are also under fire for huge travelling expense . Now time is coming where we have to think twice whether expensive travels to other countries are necessary for our local government officials? Is it their mandate to travel foreign countries?
Even time is coming where public have to decide whether they want to accept lower paid wages; or they want to find an alternative to stop companies moving out of country and an alternative plan for work force to get paid appropriately without fear of losing their jobs. It is not easy..It is political issue..but it has to be resolved by voters only... How......
Quality of roads, new residential developments without proper public facilities , drugs and crime, traffic congestion, high cost of living, high cost of higher education, long waiting list for medical treatments, declining standard of living day by day, increasing corruption in politics day by day, lower paid foreign workers and lower paid Canadian workers are taking over regular paid Canadian workers's jobs by privatization of jobs in government sector and contracting out jobs in private sector to outsourcing centers, foreign workers......
On one hand we are lucky that we live in a heaven with high standard of living but on the other hand the wages are slacking down and cost of living have more than doubled in last 12 years. I am concerned about coming years where if trend continues, then survival may become tough..
Where would it end before Canadians have to give up their standard of living? Our own Canadian Loonie has lost its value to less than half in past 12 years. Corporate greed and expensive-inefficient politicians are also our part of headache. More than half of politicians sits in parliament and do nothing.
It seems like a professor (PM or Minister) is delivering a lecture in some foreign language and the those MPs, like students, are either struggling to understand the issue or they are snoozing to kill their time.
Wouldn't it be nice if television coverage during session cover every one and not only the Prime minister, ministers and Opposition. May be they are not authorized to cover everyone. Because if that would be the case, we would be very disappointed to see most of them sitting there with no participation in the on going debate and some may be snoozing!
Than one would think about it, do we really need that many representatives in the parliament. Most likely not. We need as many representatives as many we need. How many we need? Not more than the number of ministers we need! Why we are paying extra money to MPs, MLAs, Councillors if they are doing nothing there? Think about senators once again also!!
Opposition, occasionally, wake them up by their uproar. By the way Opposition is very loyal to oppose everything whether it is beneficial to public or not- their job is to simply oppose!!!
In recent elections you must have observed that both NDP and Liberal in BC had nothing to offer to public other than negative ads. Seems like both parties don't bother working hard to make there political agenda to present to BC voters. Perhaps they don't have a boss to report to.................
But lets focus on our responsibilities. We have to work in order to pay our bills, pay our taxes and pay our politicians - including those who are back benchers.

For best results, all parties whether in power or opposition should have same ideology which must keep balance between employees and employers.
Until we have left or right or in between parties, which cater to only one side of the public interest, we can not expect fastest possible progress in Surrey, BC and Canada.
